Wheat carryover seen to slow as 1956 demand outlook grows
The Agriculture Department says the long wheat carryover built up since 1952 should slow materially by July 1, 1956 and level off a year later. Output is trimmed by acreage allotments and quotas, with 1955–56 production projected around 911 million bushels and 1956 potentially lower. Marketing year supplies total about 1.935 billion bushels, while the government holds about 2.5 billion dollars in wheat purchases from price supports. Prices may average near two dollars per bushel, down from 2.14 last year. 1955 crop parity rate lowered to 82.4 percent from 90.0. A 55 million acre seed is expected for 1956, possibly yielding around 860 million bushels.
