Settlements: Memories of Kansas Jewish colonies fading
The Beersheba colony and others such as Leeser Gilead Touro and Montefiore formed in 1886 across Kansas with aid from the Hebrew Union Agricultural Society. They faced blizzards drought and poor farming land, led to sod houses and a sod synagogue, and collapsed by 1890 with few remnants marked except Beersheba and a restored historical marker near Kalvesta.

Health care grant rejection draws sharp Kansas critique
Cotsoradis and Anna Lambertson of the Kansas Health Consumer Coalition decry the denial of a federal health care grant, arguing it leaves Kansas with 350,000 uninsured residents and shifts cost to the state if a federal exchange is imposed. They question Medicaid cut plans amid ACA expansion and possible repeal scenarios.
