Finney County commissioners approve moving the Finney County Convention and Tourism Bureau to 1513 E Fulton Terrace next door from the chamber offices to gain a visible storefront. The plan adds about 2000 square feet with a storage area and higher operating costs estimated at 8000 to 10000 dollars one time plus 300 dollars monthly for utilities. The bureau is funded by a 6 percent hotel tax and could host an LED sign pending owner and city approvals. Remodeling should take about 30 days with move-in once complete.

Garden City USD 457 approves tight 2011-12 budget
The USD 457 board unanimously approves a lean $46.37 million general fund with a $1.3 million boost to the local option budget and a 0.22 mill property tax increase to 49.18 mills. A public hearing preceded the vote. The district projects enrollment above 7,000 and relies on a $391,230 rise in state aid. The budget reflects years of state and federal cuts and includes staff reductions and a library paras elimination to save about $300,000. The board also authorized park use with Garden City and accepted a $100,000 KSDE grant to address NCLB corrective measures.
