Potent heroin cocaine mix blamed for Houston overdoses
Authorities link 14 deaths to a highly potent heroin or toxic batch believed to be laced with cocaine in a speedball. Eighteen overdoses in four days surpass the county's usual weekend toll. For four victims toxicology did not confirm heroin-cocaine involvement. Victims, mainly Hispanic men aged 16 to 46 from northeast Houston, showed heroin-like symptoms. Evidence includes a syringe with heroin cocaine lidocaine and small bags containing the same compound. Preliminary toxicology results were pending.
