Public backs Bush stem cell funding amid split views
Polls show most Americans approve President Bush's narrow funding plan for embryonic stem cell research led by existing cell lines from fertility clinics. About 56 to 60 percent approve, while preferences split: roughly one third want broader funding, one third support limited funding, and about a quarter favor no federal funding. Bush defends the policy and vows to veto any violating legislation. He calls it a moral issue with life-saving potential.
