Garden City USD 457 expands student teacher program
The district fills vacancies with new programs. Eight teaching jobs were filled via an employee referral bonus of 500 dollars funded by Heritage Inn and Suites and Parrot Cove Water Park. Nine paid student teachers will join next year under an accelerated program paying six thousand dollars for the school year with a potential two year district teaching commitment after licensure. Retired mentors return to train the new teachers as Des ire Cooper, a first grade student teacher at Jennie Wilson Elementary, works under mentor Pat Roth, who taught 37 years and will retire after overseeing Cooper for 40 days.
