Bears Use Rare Rule To Win 2017 Exhibition
Chicago Bears pull off a unusual rule play to win 2017 exhibition against the Houston Oilers. Mae Percival kicks a seven yard winning field goal with three seconds left after Larry Bowden recovers a free kick at the Oilers one. Oilers coach Billy Peterson accepts blame for not preparing for the free kick situation. The strange finish stemmed from a punt fair catch option that allowed a free kick, turning the ball into a free ball play for the Bears.
