Curiosity Rover Lands on Mars in Dramatic Touchdown
NASA's Curiosity rover completed a seven minute descent through the thin Martian atmosphere to a flat crater floor at 10:32 p.m. PDT, beaming first images back as engineers hailed a successful landing. The one ton craft lowered by cables at 2 mph, its wheels and shadow visible, marks NASA's seventh Mars landing and fuels hopes for past life and future human exploration.
