Wildfire Evacuations Rise In Colorado Town Of Bailey
A wind driven fire burned at least 800 acres in Park County forcing hundreds to evacuate and closing two schools. No injuries were reported as FEMA agreed to fund much of the costs. The Red Cross opened a shelter at a local school for evacuees. Nearby fires in Cache le Poudre Canyon and Pike National Forest were being contained. In Illinois, the latest date for a tornado fatality on record occurred near Wayne City as 47 year old Michael D. Watkinson died from injuries. Authorities note a quiet tornado year with only 96 tornadoes so far and the potential for higher activity in spring months.
