Developers still not interested in new casino
TOPEKA AP Developers still aren't interested in building a state owned casino in southeast Kansas. Lottery officials extended their deadline for accepting applications to July 21 after receiving no proposals. A developer would run the casino while the Lottery owns the rights and equipment. A 2007 law authorized a state owned casino in Crawford or Cherokee county but requires a $225 million investment. Some state officials see the amount as too high. Nearby, the Quapaw Tribe opened a casino in 2008 just across the border in northeast Oklahoma.
