ESL Students Create Scrapbooks at Garden City Community College
Immigrant students in Garden City Community College English as a Second Language program crafted scrapbooks detailing leaving home lands and settling in the United States. Two public receptions are scheduled May 2 from 10 a.m. to noon and May 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Beth Tedrow Student Center portico, where students and instructor Jeanie Ferguson will discuss and display the works. The project is part of Language 233 High-Intermediate Grammar in ESL and has run for more than five years to build reading and writing skills through writing and presentations.

In Shawnee County District Court 42 year old Roy Don Wilhoite pleaded no contest to first degree murder for the 2023 shooting death of 27 year old Gerald Laron Swopes. Jury selection begins in Kansas murder trial
