Pope John Paul II Led Good Friday Cross Walk in Rome

Iraqi families helped the 82 year old pope carry the cross during the Good Friday procession at the Colosseum. He prayed for victims of hate war and terrorism and urged world events to unfold in justice and peace. The cross was passed to an Iraqi couple and later to the pope, as he remained seated for part of the march. Burial of SARS’ hero Urbani’s widow and son joined the carrying line. The pope, frail but active, planned Easter rites and a vigil in St. Peter's Basilica.
