Russell fire chief Earl Hemphill 61 died while directing traffic at a crash north of Russell when a Paradise fire truck responding to the same incident struck his vehicle and Hemphill. More than 200 firefighters, friends and family gathered as his casket was loaded onto a fire truck he helped purchase and funerary rites followed by an honor guard.
