Sorenstam’s comeback steals LPGA spotlight in low-key weekend

Annika Sorenstam surged from 10 behind to win The Office Depot tournament in Los Angeles tying LPGA record with a fourth straight title. The weekend spotlight stayed with Tiger Woods at Bay Hill and The Players, while a 34,148 crowd watched the first Women’s United Soccer Association game at RFK Stadium. Garden City changes Roundball to December event

Garden Roundball will not be held in January 2002. Instead the tournament moves to December 13 15 due to scheduling changes in Nebraska Oklahoma and Texas. Garden City coach Jeff Tanner says teams were hard to find and the shift allows participation before Christmas with Enid Oklahoma and Ponderosa Colorado joining next season. The Buffaloes will also miss the Runza Mr Basketball Holiday Tournament and travel to Moore Oklahoma for another event. Meanwhile Garden City girls soccer struggles with injuries as KK Youthy and Esmeralda Orosco are out, forcing lineup changes for a game at Hays and a home rematch with Hays Thursday. The swimming schedule tightens with four meets in six days after a light week.
