Brownback rule out for K-State job after Schulz departure

Gov. Sam Brownback dismissed talk of pursuing the Kansas State University presidency after President Kirk Schulz leaves. He said he is focused on state government and hopes Bill Snyder remains K-State football coach for years. Schulz will become Washington State president in June with a five year contract. The Board of Regents will appoint an interim and, later, a replacement. Brownback is a K-State alumnus and former senator.

Kansas Supreme Court sets May 10 oral arguments on school finance law

The Kansas Supreme Court ordered May 10 for oral arguments on House Bill 2655 and set a tight briefing schedule with a April 28 deadline. The court warns of possible school closures if a constitutional funding system is not enacted by June 30, while allowing for a potential extension. Governor Brownback signed the bill amid a delicate legislative compromise to address prior inequities in funding.
