State revenue estimates revised down in Kansas
Kansas legislators face more than 185 million dollars in cuts as new revenue estimates show 74 million dollars less than prior forecasts for the current year and 111 million less for fiscal 2002. Growth in retail sales has stalled and tax revenues are below expectations as lawmakers prepare to finalize the 2002 budget after a House vote on a 9.11 billion spending bill.

House quickly killed the same plan as lawmakers grapple with revised revenue projections down 185 million for 2001 and 2002. Governor Graves pressed for more school funding but warned of tighter finances and urged creative funding beyond the state general fund.
