Hawaii educators threaten statewide strike over pay
About 13,000 public school teachers and 3,100 University of Hawaii faculty threaten to strike on Thursday if demands are not met. The potential impact would affect 182,328 public school students and 41,933 university students. Teachers earn from 29 000 to 58 000 annually, with the offer proposing an average 11 percent raise over two years, larger for newer teachers to aid recruitment amid a growing shortage.
