Traffic on the Galena River In July 1905
In July 1905 the Galena River saw increased traffic due to higher water from spring floods and dredging-like effects after locks operation. The steamship Minne Lehnieder carried 880 square yards of sand, sand barges 875 square yards, and 4,000 to 5,000 passengers passed through the locks. Bridges opened 64 times for various craft, and calls for a flood gate to sustain depth and boost traffic were made. Also mentions Kempter’s Book Store offerings and a note on the word amateur.

Condemnation suit postponed as railroad shifts survey plans
A circuit court condemnation hearing was postponed after Great Western Railway chose to conduct a new survey on planned side track through S A Stump property in Rice township. Stump valued the land at 1000 dollars and the company balked at the price. No further steps were announced. Prairie Queen flour remains promoted. North-Western Line announces new Pullman sleeping car service with routes from Rochester to Mankato Tracy Huron and connections to Chicago Madison Pierre and Brookings. Service includes through coach to Pierre and a Brookings connection to Watertown Redfield. Traveling public may benefit from the line’s new service with rates and tickets via Chicago and North-Western. Raco Flour advertised as best on the market. For sale by John Cloran.

Death of Mrs Cora Deckler in Wesley Hospital
The remains of Mrs. Cora Deckler, 32, of Guildford township, died at Wesley Hospital in Chicago Saturday evening. Her funeral was held at 2 pm today from St. Marys Catholic Church, with interment at Snowd. She is survived by one daughter, her father Peter Heckelsmiller, and several siblings including William of Freeport and Mrs. Herrs of Boston. Remains were brought to Galena Monday for burial, accompanied by relatives from Chicago and Scales Mound. A Rosebake Camp No 2104 meeting will be held in Woodman Tall Wednesday evening.
