The libel actions by Dyersville attorney D. C. Oehler against the Times and the Globe-Journal were dismissed on motion by Judge O'Donnell after defense counsel argued for trial. The papers had reported a disgraceful saloon episode involving the young Oshler and his father, a local justice of the peace, who sought to take him home. the youth drew a gun to resist.
Tim Shields a veteran printer aged seventy five arrived in Galena and visited the Tribune. He is the last survivor of the old hand composing era, drifted from town to town, worked on major papers, and now wanders seeking work while recalling the past.

Capt E T E Becker a well known Mt Carroll resident died at home Monday at 1 30 p m Born Bradford County Pa April 28 1833 he lived in Carroll County since 1843 and was among the area’s early settlers. He practiced law and held several offices.
Otto Willy and Miss Elizabeth McGaugh wed at St Marys Catholic Church at six this morning. Few invited friends attended. Rev Father Bally officiated. Groom's brother George Willy attended, cousin of the bride was bridesmaid. The couple will establish a home on Franklin Street after a breakfast at the bride's home.
Chicago May 29 The judiciary committee of the bar association will hear charges against Judge Arthur H Chetlain amid claims he appointed Edwin J Zimmer to lucrative receiverships due to owed debts Zimmer a former veterinary surgeon turned loan broker faces scrutiny over alleged favoritism and possible justice shortfalls in Chetlains court Also noted is Nicholas P Valerius once a veterinary surgeon who built a loan office and ornamental confectionery business and now sues Chetlain on notes.
Schnell, contractor for Ga lena streets, arrived today and planned to start Monday morning but work time is extended until after the street carnival opens Tuesday to keep streets in current condition during the fair.
Bolt, a Chicago resident on secret service work, says he is not the agent the Tribune claimed was investigating saloon keepers. He describes the lookalike man as tan shoes and vest, gray hair, and notes the mix up caused by a mistaken report.
East Dubuque may cancel its Memorial day parade as nearly a hundred residents are summoned to testify before the grand jury in session here. Leading citizens, including G A R members, were in town to testify on slot machines and Sunday closing law infringements, leaving many unable to participate. The grand jury may adjourn Thursday or Friday after revealing indictments.
A violent cloud burst near Golconda Nevada washed out a rail line and shattered a sheep shearers camp. Eight to ten Mexican workers are reported drowned when a dam broke in Pole Creek Canyon three miles above the Golconda corral. The flood swept away buildings and left no structures standing in the Golconda Cattle Company area.
An unusually large copperhead snake, five and a half feet long, was killed yesterday at the home of J. A. Barber on the hill after being spotted in the yard by a worker. Also noted was the death of Detroit editor James Scripps on May 29 and several local notes about court attendance, paint on a saloon building, and real estate broker J. G. Loughtin opening a temporary office in Trayer, Iowa.

The funeral of the late William Foecking who died in Chicago was held at 2:30 this afternoon from the home of his brother in law H Fleege in West Galena. Local merchants favor using the opera house to host Billy Sunday instead of building a new tabernacle. They argue renting the opera house for four weeks would cost under 400 dollars, while ministers estimate a tabernacle could be built for 1000 to 1200 dollars. Ministers counter that a comparable cost might equal renting the opera house.
