The Beacon Light near Empire hosts a 40 shareholder mining company with $100 per share. It controls 240 acres at Platteville and prepares for officer elections on May 19 as new machinery and shafts go in. Other districts, like Shullsburg and Highland, report multi‑millionaires and plans for concentrators to meet rising ore demand.
Highland Mining received three carloads of coal on the 19th from Mineral Point and reports disseminated lead three feet thick. Security Mining advances on Walter Wall land with a shaft to forty feet and plans further digging for a lode of jack. Scullion and Fecht drill ahead striking ore in several holes while James Cody land yields rich jack. Wallace Mining tests 60 percent zinc as it cleans up jack. The Joplin market shows zinc at 44 dollars per ton for Rob Roy and Rex land ore, with assay 40 to 41 dollars per ton of 60 percent zinc. Lead hovers 81 to 83 dollars per ton amid strong competition to secure quality ore. Weekly shipments remain heavy with smelters filling bins, mine output at peak levels for the period, as floods last May are recalled.
James Kent reports a strong jack show on the Mike Doyle land south of town and eyes several district mines. The Red Jacket Mining company at Drybone hoists rich jack and lead, with dividends expected after the mill arrives. Stepler Lampe & Co. also mine with rich jack and dry bone in sight and aim to exceed last season's ore yield.

Judge Spensley reports drills stopped at the Flat Sheet mine after thorough ground proof. Rich mineral was found earlier, many holes sunk across the range, and a shaft to 50 feet shows ore along the section. It is expected the main ore body lies about 25 feet deeper.

In Galena the home team defeats Bloomington 2 to 1 after a tense ten inning battle. Mose Parish pitched brilliantly with eight hits allowed and no walks, while McKee Kane and Strong led Galena at the plate and Tracey scored the winning run on a throw mishap. The win cements Parish as the hero of the night with a dramatic late inning finish.
John Winter aged 66 and long time Schapville resident died at his home in Schapville Wednesday morning after about a week of illness. The funeral will be at 1 PM Friday from his late home to the Presbyterian church in Schapville, with interment in the local cemetery.
Tuesday notices show Dubuque and Chicago visitors in the city yesterday including Chas Armitage Wm Gleason and Miss McCarthy.
