Mrs Casper Lehner hosted a party of fourteen ladies at a afternoon thimble bee at her home on Dewey Ave. Local ads promote affordable hats with price points of 1 to 3 dollars and novelty items. Pie Social and Contest Draws Y M C A Members

On Monday evening the Y M C A hosts a pie social for men featuring a pie eating contest and prizes for the best pie composition and the best pie poem. A musical program will accompany the event and attendees are promised a cheerful time. Checks for the I C R R Co semi annual dividend, issued March 1, arrived in Galena. The dividend rate was three and one half per cent.

Deadly wanderer Otho Shrader returns home to Lancaster

The obituary notes Otho Shrader, son of Grant County pioneer L.O. Shrader, died soon after returning to Lancaster Wisconsin from the west. He traveled years ago after a wandering fever and died amid heavy snow preventing a proper escort to the grave. Funeral notices for local churches and a series of regional obituaries follow with service times and locations.

New Carrier Appointment Considered for Galena

G H Rottler of Galena Ilinois forwarded a petition for added mail carriers to extend free delivery beyond current limits. C A Conrard Acting Fourth Assistant Postmaster General says the matter will be investigated and a report will follow.

The executive committee has appointed a fund solicitation committee to seek voluntary subscriptions for maintaining a professional ball team for the coming season. They will begin visits to fans on Monday hoping for strong support and success.

Engineer Parker Injured In Scales Mound Train Crash

The incident at Scales Mound on the Illinois Central left engineer Charles Parker of Waterloo badly hurt. Brakes failed to hold three cars, sending them into Parker’s cab and causing severe injuries to his hips ankles and a fractured pelvic bone. Parker is hospitalized at St Francis in Freeport and expected to recover in three to four weeks. Mrs Parker and their two daughters are with him at the hospital. Train No 6 was delayed about an hour and five minutes.

Pension for Railroad Men Reported by Illinois Central

The Illinois Central adopts a pension system in 1901 for employees serving full time. A seven member board makes rules for operation and eligibility. Retirements occur at 70 for officers and 65 for engineers firemen and conductors with pension of 1 percent per year of service from last salary. Two longtime Central employees aged 70 in Dubuque, J Hayes and Michael Carey, have applied for pensions.

Knights of Columbus Social Draws 100 at Birmingham Building

The Knights of Columbus hosted a social and dance last night in their Birmingham building quarters. More than one hundred attendees enjoyed dancing, card games, and a brief musical program.
