Wreck Disastrous: Heavy Cattle and Hog Losses Near Wasco

A Great Western stock train wreck near Wasco injures many animals and derails fifteen cars. Fifty cattle and fifty hogs are killed along with damage to stock cars, with an estimated $10,000 in losses and no injuries to the crew. The engine breaks a rail at 4 a.m. as the fast freight passes through town.

Farewell Sermon For Rev E H Baker At Baptist Church

Rev E H Baker, recently leading the Baptist church, will deliver his farewell sermon Sunday afternoon at 3 80 o clock. He came to the town weeks ago to revitalize the church but now must relinquish the charge due to waning interest. County Loses Noted Educator J W Wilcox in Scales Mound

The death of Jo Daviess County Superintendent J W Wilcox at Scales Mound on Tuesday follows a sudden illness after weeks of poor health. A native of the county, he led local schools since 1892 and mourns the loss of his wife and daughter as well as his years of service. William Alva and Henry Leroy Wilcox survive with two other children. Funeral plans remain pending.

Board to appoint successor to county superintendent

Following J W Wilcox death the county superintendent post is vacant and the board of supervisors must appoint a temporary successor until the next general election. A two thirds petition will trigger a special meeting possibly on March 20 with no candidate names yet mentioned. The choice is crucial for school efficiency. Court 18 Adjourned Defense Gets New Trial In Auto Case

The March term of the circuit court adjourned at noon with Judge Farrand returning home. Several divorces granted. Hunt's automobile case Metzger vs Hunt ended in a not guilty verdict for Hunt. A new trial was granted in Conkling vs Whitmore, to be heard at the May term.

Galena Man Directs Southbound Party of Sixty

J. J. Gray of Galena, traveling passenger agent for Illinois Central and St Paul, sends word his son Homer tours the south with a party of about sixty Twin City people under his care. Gray, born and raised here, rose rapidly through railroad ranks from operator to main offices at Dubuque.

Low voter turnout in city alderman primaries

The primaries were open in city wards for alderman nominations with little interest. Only three votes had been cast in the second ward by 2:30 PM and other wards reported similarly small turnout.
