Dell Dassow, who shot Lena Harrison and Charles Peet on Greenwood road near Belvidere, died by self-inflicted gunshot in Nippersink creek using the same revolver. His body, weighted with rocks and tied to a tree, was found by his brother. Dassow had pursued the couple after a prior failed attempt to kill them and was cornered by a posse before taking his own life. Harrison and Peet survived their wounds. Coroner Maxon of Harvard conducted an inquest. The episode sparked widespread concern across Greenwood and McHenry County.

Rev Dr Alexander Mackay Smith Episcopal bishop coadjutor of Pennsylvania voted in Philadelphia with three black servants. The group entered a life cigar store polling place without hats, surprised judges as the blacks voted first and then joined the end of the line. The bishop, a Republican and Roosevelt supporter, led the trio to vote together.
