In Galena on July 12, Miss Eva Penticoff daughter of Mrs Kate Penticoff married Otto Steinestel son of Mrs Louisa Steinestel. Rev Van de Erge officiated at the ceremony. The Galena Cornet Band traveled to Savanna this morning to provide music for the carnival all week. A number of Galenians plan to attend at least one day this week.

Several members of the Galena Independents and friends enjoyed a launch ride down the river this afternoon conveyed in Prank Owens house boat by Paul Kerrs Inuneh. An excursion was run down to Camp Nineteen last evening on Gears Merry.

Main street progress quickens with brick work ahead

Work on Main street advances as fast as possible with grading and trenching in progress. Once brick laying begins, carloads will be needed to finish the project. Len Gilbert plans a new meat market, purchasing the Naterman homestead on the hill and erecting a building on the property. A marriage license was issued to Benjamin Birkbeck and Amanda H. Kucherman. Several Galena youths are expected to wed in August and September. An ice cream social is planned by St Anthony's League on the lawn at Miss Mary Paul's on Wednesday. Many residents consider a Dubuque excursion next Sunday.

Zinc Ore Found in Glass Rock Near Galena

Mining men report a large zinc ore deposit in glass rock at the Ollie Bell mine near Galena two miles from Rowley. The ore lies 180 feet below the surface and 30 feet below the river bed with no sulphur below, encouraging deeper explorations by Rowley and Kennedy.

Found Dead In Freeport Involving Richard Gleason Death
