Illinois begins survey of northern lead and zinc fields

The Illinois geological department starts a thorough survey of the lead and zinc region in Jo Daviess county with M Scheflow and M J Predee guiding a field party. Maps and charts will be printed after completion for distribution to interested parties. The survey runs from the state line southward over months, visiting every mine and prospect.

Russell Mine Shows Strong Production and Growing Prospects

The Russell mine continues producing a solid mineral run and improving prospects as development proceeds. The incline shaft reaches 108 feet with a small water accumulation at the bottom. pumping may be needed once the shaft reaches 115 feet to control the flow.

Blewett Prospect Near City Hits Black Jack Vein

William H. Blewett reports a promising strike of black jack on his farm near the city. He plans machinery installation soon to develop the prospect and expects a larger ore body when the shaft reaches ten to fifteen feet deeper.

Hazel Green Mine Near Drainage Soon

Word from Hazel Green says the new machinery at the Hazel Green mine, put in operation yesterday, is working very satisfactorily and the mine will be drained of water by Monday. Once drained, a large force of miners will resume operations as prospects had been bright before the fire.

Joplin Ore Market Faces Mixed Zinc and Lead Prices

zinc prices in Joplin week report show no higher than 47 dollars per ton, Webb City cites up to 48 dollars, assay basis 42 to 45 dollars for 60 percent zinc. Shullsburg Mining Camp Attracts Outside Capital And Power Expansion

Shullsburg miners report heavy outside interest in local propositions and private visitor support from Janesville Milwaukee and eastern points. Fourteen power plants including pumping outfits have been contracted for and will be installed as soon as ready. A new drilling company commits to 10000 feet of prospect work. The Lake Superior reports another jack strike on the Cope land estate with water running off the hill side. The Lucky Hit Brown Croft and Dewey operate while Hawthorne stalls due to a Dubuque Smedley works accident and will be ready by the 15th. The Shullsburg shaft is sinking and the 8. and J. expects machinery this week. The Oxford encounters a heavy mixed ore sheet over the Shullsburg Hawthorne and 8. and J. ranges. The St. Paul plans westward line extension. Traveling from Shullsburg to Platteville or Mineral Point is slow, harming traffic. Citizens last issue ordered many extra copies mailed nationwide. The Linden camp reports its biggest ore strike on the Glanville extension owned by Wm Viel, with 40 acres south of Ross. Cuttings show solid one-foot jack. Linden shipments will be light this week. The Golden Rod north of Platteville Linden shows dgg-tooth spar and sulphur in ore bearing zone.
