James Welsh, a country farmer, met a peculiar accident Sunday afternoon while driving up Franklin street. Attempting to pass a buggy in the same direction, his horse shied, causing the shafts of the two rigs to become entangled. No one was hurt. only one buggy suffered a broken shaft. Veteran engineer James Hecox of the Madison division on the Northwestern lines will retire in a few days upon reaching the age limit. He has operated on the Madison division since the road reached this city and is highly regarded along the line. Mrs. W. W. Carly, aged resident of the county, died at her Hanover home Saturday after several weeks illness following a paralysis stroke. She married Mr. Carly in June 1857 and was well known in Hanover and vicinity, with many friends who regret her passing.

Sabula Man Killed Crossing Bridge by Train
Thorn Peterson an elderly Sabula Iowa resident and Burlington roundhouse wiper was killed Sunday while crossing the Milwaukee railroad bridge over the Mississippi at Savannah. A work train struck him as he attempted to jump aside. He died instantly and is survived by a wife and family.
