Judge Webb ruled the Wisconsin anti-pass law legal and denied arrest of judgment in a case against a Wisconsin Central Railway attorney who received transportation from the company as part of his pay while also serving as a notary public. The law bans transportation benefits not bought at regular rates by state officeholders except when pursuing company interests.

A morning blaze in Chalton Iowa burned six large brick blocks on the North Side Square damaging the post office and contents. Mayor Alexander said the loss could reach $100,000 with the six stores in ruins. Local authorities report extensive damage across the business district.
Safe blowers wrecked the Iroquois bank vault near Iroquois eighty miles from Chicago and took all the money, amounting to several thousand dollars. In Columbus Ohio the state assembly speakership race heats up with multiple candidates and shifting support as ballots approach.
The Russian Symph ony Orchestra will perform at Carnegie Hall this evening featuring Zolotarioff’s Rhapsodie Hebraique. It marks the first U S presentation of the piece which draws on Hebrew melodies used by Orthodox Jews in Russia and fuses them into an Oriental inspired scale.
Cincinnati Ohio December 30 1905 attorneys Schmidlap and Tilson have closed the off from five Appleyard traction properties and all claims having been filed. Everything is ready for the sale of the property on or after January 1 1906. The property includes the Urbana Bellfontaine Northern Railway the Dayton Springfield Urbana Electric Company and three other traction lines of minor importance. The sale of the three smaller lines will be handled by the court at Columbus.
The Verein Frohsinn, a leading German society in this region, marks its 40th anniversary with a formal evening. Officers of the New England Sängerbund and the society’s selectmen will attend as guests of honor. An elaborate musical and social program is planned, with Mr. M. Eberhard of Boston as principal orator.
