Russell Wilson, a Northwestern brakeman from this city, collapsed from sun exposure while unloading freight near Platteville. He was found unconscious, revived, and returned home where he remains weak but improving. The day saw several heat prostrations as workers paused to seek cooler conditions.
A man about 50 attempted suicide by leaping from a high East Dubuque bridge railing twice. He was stopped by two bystanders, taken to the mayor’s office and then to the city hospital. Authorities said he was temporarily insane and released the next morning.
