D B Morehouse of Davenport, a Galena native, rejoined veterans at the Minneapolis G A R encampment then journeyed to Galena for a brief visit. He enlisted as a youth with company B B Howards and served through the Civil War before returning to Galena and later Davenport. His father, Capt. Vinegar Hill farmer John Stokes, born December 1855, died at 8:30 this morning from injuries after slipping from a ladder while stacking grain. He leaves a wife Lena Lowling and four siblings. funeral set for 8:30 Sunday from the family home.
North Western Superintendent Cantillion arrived in Galena with Assistant Superintendent W D Cantillion Division Superintendent Beck and others for an inspection of the line to Baraboo Wisconsin. The party transferred from its private car to an Illinois Central train for the trip to Chicago.
