Veteran Returns After Forty Years From G A R Encampment

D B Morehouse of Davenport, a Galena native, rejoined veterans at the Minneapolis G A R encampment then journeyed to Galena for a brief visit. He enlisted as a youth with company B B Howards and served through the Civil War before returning to Galena and later Davenport. His father, Capt. Morehouse, owned the steamer Galena, a major river boat a generation ago. Croquet sets 4 ball full sets 49 cents at Coatsworths.

Golden Anniversary Fair Promises Big Attractions in Jo Daviess

This fall marks the fiftieth anniversary of Jo Daviess County fairs. Organizers signed contracts for free and paid attractions including Dare Devil Nie Carter performing a 90 foot dive and the Juggling Parrots act. Herr Schmidt, Human Pillar, will bear 1800 pounds while a rider straddles a bicycle. Racing and top county horses will attract farmers and spectators to a large, entertaining event.
