L. Lavensky employed by L. Gordon to buy junk vanished after being sent to the country with a horse wagon and ten dollars in change. Gordon, a noted junk buyer, swore out a larceny warrant claiming Lavensky took the money and possibly the horse and wagon, with authorities seeking him as a missing person and suspect.

Edn Heyer a 25 year old fisherman from Menominee station is jailed after a guilty verdict for illegal fishing. The Guilford post office will close tomorrow and a rural route will start, making five routes from Galena. A substitute will cover until next week when a regular carrier is expected. Two Engines Collide in Early Morning Head End Crash

At 3 30 this morning a switch engine and a heavy freight on the Burlington at East Dubuque collided after meeting a passenger train. One man was cut and bruised, another slightly injured. the switch engine damaged and out of service. Crews remained at their posts. fault not fixed.

Senator McKenzie says mines are active in area

Senator J. C. McKenzie of Elizabeth reported in the city that the Black Hawk mine is running and the Kansas mine is producing good ore. He said the Skene mine remains closed but has drills in operation and prospecting, with good results expected and a return to operation this fall.

St Louis carloads supply Galena Iron Works with timbers

Three more carloads arrived from St Louis for the Galena Iron Works. The heavy timbers, used briefly at the World Fair, are nearly new. Galena Iron Works expects 24 more carloads in coming weeks for use around local mines. A marriage license was issued to Theo M Balcoff of Hanover and Miss Kaith Geiger of this city.

In Freeport the Republican convention nominated W. W. Krape on the fourth ballot for the general assembly and W. W. Gillespie on the first ballot with P. M. Tiffany elected chairman. Delegates from the county included R. M. Spensley and J. A. Scofield among others. A Democratic nomination followed with W. Pauson named for the assembly from this district.

Horse Ends Life by Jumping on Post

A horse in Freeport died after rearing and colliding with an iron hitching post in front of the Baer saloon on Galena street. The accident occurred Sunday night about 11 o'clock when a team driven by John Marteeney became frightened by an eastbound auto. The leading horse fell against the post, which penetrated the animal near the shoulder and lodged in the back bone, killing it instantly. Marteeney, of Lena, had hitched the team while visiting a friend.

Auto Explosion Report Stirred Platteville Streets

A circulated street report claimed an auto exploded in Platteville injuring people. Officials state no accident is known there. Earlier a runaway caused by a frightened horse may have sparked the explosion rumor.

Bomb explosion damages Dubuque club entrance

An explosive discharged at the Ninth and Locusts street club entrance damaged the terra cotta pillar and several windows. One man was injured by flying glass as workers and bystanders gathered after the blast. No suspect or motive identified.

Mad Man Injures Seven on Wisconsin Train

Seven men were seriously injured on a Chicago Milwaukee and St Paul train at Sparta Wisconsin as Louis Feltz of Milwaukee, in a presumed intoxicated or demented state, drew a knife and attacked the conductor triggering a struggle. The incident left several passengers hurt with two likely fatally wounded.
