George A. Carey a Northwestern brakeman previously from Sterling was fatally injured when three cars passed over him during switching in Marengo Illinois. His legs were severed and his right arm torn off. He died forty eight hours later at his Chicago home after medical amputation and shock.
A flock of 300 Angora goats from Kansas City were unloaded at Burlington stockyards and shipped to Dr E L Martindale's Clinton farm. The goats, delivered Friday night, are to clear brush on the rolling Ustick land to improve pasture and prepare for plowing. Tenant John Bielema accompanied Saturday as the herd was driven to the farm.
Hon John P Vetter of Lee County declares in a May 9 1908 Steward DL statement his support for the local option law. He stresses he will defend and vote to prevent repeal and will work with its supporters in the legislature.
Albert Fields of Prophetstown was chosen by the anti Kannally faction in Whiteside County to seek the minority representative nomination in the Thirty-fifth Senate district. Two Democrats, Edward Devine of Habnaman and Fields, contested the race. Whiteside, DeKalb, and Lee counties weighed in, with Branen favored by some counties, while a prior promise influenced the selection at a Saturday conference attended by leading Democrats.

Samuel Taylor a Kent Illinois resident and former town clerk and supervisor died Wednesday morning at his home by taking a large dose of strychnine. He was forty five and leaves a wife. Poor health was cited as the cause. The item also notes X F Beidler of Lincoln announces candidacy for Democratic nomination for secretary of state. Endorsement from Lawrence B Stringer praises Beidler as a three term Logan county clerk and urges party support.
