A letter signed C B Ryan pleads for Santa to bring gifts fitting winter wishes and personal items. The writer emphasizes loyalty yet laments that Santa has missed past years and asks for thoughtful presents including a car, fur coat, muff, cigar, pipe, and a shave for the newspaper.
In Greene county Pennsylvania in December 1881 local residents are noted. B Stern was elected vice president of Ber Chajim Lodge No 177 Cumberland. Marriage announcements recount Ella Lougham to William T Parker and Jeannette Dempster to John Arthur. Community deaths of Frank Heber and Ada Bell are listed along with a fatality at Bowery Furnace. A coroner's jury concluded Thomas Hodgett was struck on the head by an unknown assailant.
