Story of a Statesman and a Humble Bridegroom
A self made South district congressman Algernon Smith Brownlee rises from poverty through relentless hustle. He wins a seat, but a marriage to Daisy Vernon exposes his social reinvention. Faced with hostile reception from his constituents and jealous in laws, Daisy accompanies him to meet his parents before returning to Washington. Brownlee’s political ascent continues, culminating in a sharp speech and rapid ascent on committee tracks, crowned by a remorseful pardon note from Daisy.

Depth limits of sea water pressure on life explained
An 1840s discussion debunked the belief that water at great depths becomes impenetrably compressed. It notes water is nearly incompressible and compares surface and mile-deep pressures, explaining how vessels and living beings endure or suffer from changes in pressure, with examples of deep-sea specimens appearing altered when brought to the surface.

I Saw Jesus Dr. Davis Alive After a Blasting Accident
In August 1828 a Massachusetts blasting accident injured two men. One died, the other appeared dead until a physician revived him, and Babb recovered fully. A boy born September 1825 at the house of the revived man heard the Bible story of Jesus raising the dead and exclaimed that Jesus is Dr. Davis, claiming he also knew Rabb who made alive after the blast. Some men are born liars, others learn the craft.
