Flushing Ewes at Breeding Time Increases Lamb Crop
Experimental work over six years by the U S Department of Agriculture shows extra feeding at breeding time, or flushing, yields about 19.8 more lambs per 100 ewes. Best results come from bluegrass or legume pastures. when pastures are poor, a grain supplement serves well. Per-ewe feeding ranges from half to three quarters of a pound daily. Flushing improves ewe condition and raises twin lamb proportions, boosting next spring’s lamb crop.
