Thorsdale Skirmish Over wills and Yorkshire exile
In Chapter X, Algernon Thorsdale fights for his health and her duty as Lady Constance Thorsdale pressures him to choose between Davos or Engadine. Sir Richard Mortmain plots to aid her by visiting a remote occultist hut in the Yorkshire moorlands, while Don Langton and Violet Langton await study. The scene shifts to a grim cottage where Sir Richard encounters a chained guard of hounds and a hidden resident, as the plot angles toward a tense meeting.

The three masted schooner Waukesha sank off Muskegon Michigan after a fierce storm. Frank Dulach the sole survivor testified in a sheriff’s affidavit that the captain refused to beach the vessel and stayed afloat until the ship broke apart. The crew of seven included the captain mate cook and four sailors. Dulach recounted the boat loaded with salt from Ludington bound for South Chicago. Nine lives lost, survivors built a raft, and Dulach aided others until he could not.
