Newt Gilbert Sweeps The District In Victory
Newton W. Gilbert fulfilled his pledge to the party by winning a large district plurality, the biggest for a Republican in the district, and carrying the entire county ticket in Allen county. The county ticket vote reflected local races with no local contest. Thomas S. Wickwire and Frank G. Salisbury were elected Joint Senator and Joint Representative for Steuben and Dekalb and Steuben and Lagrange respectively. Gilbert’s district plurality stood at 2142.

E C Duguid, a prominent dry goods merchant, has acquired the Hilton House hotel from Wiser with plans to thoroughly repair furnish and modernize the property. He aims to make it a first class two dollar a day hotel between Fort Wayne and Jackson, with a new heating system and updated service. The transfer takes effect March 1st and follows months of negotiations.
