Sigsbee at Home After Maine Wreck Arrival
Captain Sigsbee of the wrecked steamer Maine reached Washington at 7 41 am with Paysmaster Ray Chief engineer Howell Naval Cadet Holden and Dr Heneberger. He visited the Navy Department at 10 3 am and expressed readiness for duty once wardrobe replenished. He reported no assignment yet and would submit a written report on the Maine when possible. Cruelty case in Butte Mont details a miner Patrick Murphy arrest for malicious assault on his wife boiling her arm with scalding water after trapping it with a floor trap door.

The eastbound Track Sank No 12 on the Peoria and astern wrecked three and a half miles east of Bloomington TL. Twenty were injured four seriously but there was no loss of life. The fast express left Bloomington at full speed and derailed at Redwin's Hill where a seventy five foot trestle spans a creek. The engine and tender sank just before the trestle and the three rear passenger cars left the rails.

Burned to Death After Slumbering With Cigarette
John Zwerbles, staying at 1019 Milwaukee avenue Chicago, fell asleep with a lighted cigarette between his lips causing bed clothing to ignite and him to be wrapped in flames. The incident is ruled murder and death by his own action. In Otterbein Indiana Frank Cummina age 35 shot and killed Bertha Timmons age 13 then killed himself.
