Explosion at Laflin and Rand Powder Works kills fifteen

Dover New Jersey reports a second blast at Pompton Lakes killing fifteen men including several soldiers guarding the powder works. Earlier, a prior explosion had killed six. Colonel Liev of the Third New Jersey Volunteers warned no battalion has guarded the site since the Spanish hostilities. The initial boiler explosion caused the force to blow up the powder sorting room.
