Rin of Friction Exhibit by J. M. Alves in St. Petersburg
Russian civil engineer J. M. Alves demonstrated a novel friction reducing device in St. Petersburg. He claimed it would revolutionize wheel motion by attaching the mechanism to vehicle wheels, reducing friction to a minimum. A horse drew a wagon of about 2.5 tons, amusing spectators as the device’s workings remained secret behind a wooden framework.
