Poor old Black comes home with the Jardines
In the Be neva chapter continuation Roderick consoles Silence by recalling Black and plans to bring the old man to their home. The scene shifts to a social visit where Sir John Symington and MacAlister of Torre call on Blackball, as Silence innocently notes the guests’ kindness while Roderick guards the memory of his father and resists dwelling on the past.
