Major Malachi Cornwall and the Arizona Scout
A Chicago Chronicle account recalls Major Malachi A. Cornwall U.S. Army retired and his friend Herrick recounting a perilous Apache ambush near Flagstaff. The tale centers on Cornwall’s improvised defense with a small force against hundreds, a dangerous escape, and a later claim of merit that he rejects while McIntire earns the medal.
