Boiler explosion at West Bay City kills five men

A boiler blast at the Russel Bros box factory in West Bay City Michigan instant killed five men and mortally injured two others. The dead include George Fount John Brown George Calcutt John Riddlebach and Charles Round. The injured are Charles Dodge and an 18 year old boy. The blast shattered windows and scattered debris over 500 feet as 5000 workers swarmed the scene.

Empress of India Arrives. Port Arthur Quiet Amid War

Victoria reports Empress of India docking with Yoko hama news to December 7. Port Arthur calm as army rests and navy clears torpedoes. Chinese fire damage to Port Arthur fortifications is slight. Explorer Missing Near Tiburons Island Gold Mines

A Hermosillo special reports a hunting party seeking Tiburons Island gold mines has lost Redyard Flores. Despite searches, he remains missing after reportedly being separated from companions and possibly abducted by the island’s cannibal tribe the Semstrdhins. The report notes that two California newspapermen were killed and eaten by the same Indians about a year earlier.

A Foolish Quarrel Claims Two Farmers Near Eldon Iowa

Two farmers Ambrose Dougherty and George Hofman die from a quarrel after attending the County Lyceum. While crossing a bridge each claimed to go first, a dispute escalated into gunfire. Hofman, 18, is fatally wounded with a gunshot to the groin, Dougherty fatally shot through the lungs. Dougherty leaves a family. The incident occurred three miles south of Eldon, Iowa.

McGlynn Recapta The Times Says He Is No Longer An Apostle

The New York Times reports that Rev Edward McGlynn has recanted all doctrines that led to his excommunication. His probation ends December 23 and Archbishop Corrigan is expected to assign him to a parish soon. A friend quotes McGlynn as stating the change is complete. Debs Will at Once Up to Prison.
