State Board Warns of Winter Smallpox Outbreak
Dr Hurry secretary of the state board of health notes smallpox is a winter disease and has appeared in Steuben LaGrange and DeKalb counties. He predicts the epidemic will continue and urges immunity via vaccination or prior illness. Fremont had one case prompting school closure and nearby vaccination efforts.

Petition to relieve county treasurer from Kinney bank loss
The Angola Herald reports a county petition to the next legislature asking for a special bill to relieve County Treasurer Willenar and his bondsmen of liability for county funds lost in the Kinney bank failure. Willenar had $12,000 deposited when the bank failed. The paper notes many blameless others were harmed and protests such legislation.
