School begins September 11 as pupils enjoy last days of vacation. Teachers attend county institute this week. Supt C W Heitz away in Bloomington, returning just in time. The staff includes Principal Olive Duguid Grammar D C Judson Intermediate Nettie Moore Primary Ella Gridley Primary Cora Fox.
Fremont announces a new community band organized with Bert Caswell as leader. The group lists Ernest Watters Clyde Johnson Joy Watters William Grube Shirley Headley Lowel Corwin Vern Belote Leo Geedy Otho Ling Claude Doudt Frank Hall Burl Pifer Lloyd Belote Frank Crandal Charlie Lytle Burt Anderson Harvey Hilbish Perry Ensley and more expected as beginners books are completed. Organizers ask for public and business support to ensure the band’s success and benefit to the town.

Agents of the Lake Shore Railway announce excursion tickets on sale for trips to Bay View Charlevoix Petoskey Traverse City and Mackinac Island with prices from 5.00 to 6.00 depending on destination. Special train departs Fremont at 6 50 a m for a full day trip.

Marion Bemenderfer the night baggage man at Waterloo was fatally shot around 10 p.m. Tuesday in the railroad yards near the depot, possibly by intruders attempting to break into a freight car. He died at 1 a.m. The DeKalb county case follows, Anthony Zonker of Corunna shot dead by Fred Kuckuck after a fight in which Kuckuck was wounded. Kuckuck had pursued Zonker’s widowed mother.
Alfred Toms, 22, and Edna Spice, 15, fled from South Milford but could not obtain a marriage license due to her age. The pair were found and returned. Toms is jailed in La Grange awaiting trial on kidnapping charges.
The Lake Shore Ky. runs a low rate excursion to Chicago on September 2. Train departs Fremont at 9:11 a.m. Round trip fare is 2 dollars 90 cents.
Nichols Bros of Angola Indiana advertises farm loans at a specified rate, with services in making and examining abstracts of titles and buying and selling lands. Call at Bachelor Block location.
Vanfleet and Vanfleet of Elkhart collected 4783 dollars for the city school corporation. They paid 1260 dollars in expenses and kept a modest 9333 dollars as their fee, according to the Lafrange Democrat.
