On Saturday, a blaze destroyed the Dotts house, barn, and outbuildings after a shed fire spread in high winds. Lois Dotts, bedridden with pneumonia, was rescued with other items saved. the family carries about 800 in insurance amid community relief requests.
A British sailing ship Marlborough vanished after leaving New Zealand in 1890 with 33 aboard. A later discovery near Punta Arenas revealed 20 skeletons on deck and in the hold, with grim signs of decay and a lone captain’s bones on the bridge. The tale adds to perilous sea legends of the Magellan Strait.
Last Tuesday evening Dr. C. A. Moore lost control of his car and struck a fence. The machine was badly smashed and a fence post broken. Both the doctor and his dog Rodney escaped unharmed. The accident occurred near James Kinsey's residence north of town. The front axle twisted beyond steering. the front end was raised on a corn planter and hauled to town.
The Fremont Jamestown good roads day drew farmers and townspeople to a roughly half mile road project starting at Dewey school house. Forty two to forty seven teams and 72 shovelers worked despite afternoon rain, placing an estimated 700 to 400 loads of gravel from Dean Brown's farm. Yimothy E. Purinton, Lake Shore freight agent at Angola, was killed when struck by a freight engine while taking car numbers on the siding near Maumee street. Wind blew his hat into the track causing him to cross unseen as wheels passed over him. He served the Lake Shore for about 30 years and leaves a widow, a daughter, and three sons. funeral held Tuesday. A. I. Ansley left for Chicago to visit his ill son Perry. Leslie Grim will run the light plant in his absence.
Local notices list morning services at 10:30 featuring preaching, Sunday school at 9:30, and evening services with prayer meetings. Methodist Episcopal and Free Methodist Chapel announce Sunday school sessions, preaching, class meetings, Epworth League, and midweek prayer gatherings with cordial invitations to all.
