Murder at Bronson claims ex express agent

Henry Wait 75 a former Bronson express agent was shot and killed Sunday afternoon in the old express office building. Paul Haciak entered the office after Wait. two shots were fired, and Haciak was arrested leaving the scene. Wait lay dead with a bullet wound. a revolver lay nearby and another was found in Haciak’s possession. Haciak, intoxicated, slept after being taken to Coldwater. he claimed memory gaps and ownership similarity of the weapon.

Marriage of Florence Richardson to Charles White in St Cloud

Miss Florence J Richardson wed Charles M White at the Christian church with I L Jenkins performing the ceremony on March 20 1917. The couple plans to travel to Ayer Massachusetts with her father J H Richardson before residing at 318 Massachusetts Avenue St Cloud. Mr White is related to Mrs Anna Doster.

Obituary for Verna B Haight in Evangelical Church

Verna B Haight born June 9 1887 died March 28 1917. She married Orlando Knapp and leaves her husband father and other relatives. Her mother and brother and a child from a former marriage preceded her in death. Four weeks ago she found Jesus as savior. Funeral at Evangelical church on March 30 led by Rev C P Schleicher.

A road meeting in the circuit court room at 2 o clock Friday will feature Prof. Martin of Purdue showing Indiana roads with discussion. Dairymen meet at 1 30 on Thursday April 12 to organize a cow testing association and hear Holstein and dairy department officials. Silas Miller, a farmer near Orland, died yesterday at Valley Line station.

District Deputy visits Fremont temple for Knight’s degree and convention plans

Mrs A B Davis of Ashley led an official visit to Fremont temple with many members in attendance. Charles Hutchins earned the Knight’s degree and praised the work. A district convention is planned for Goshen on May 24. Ice cream and cake followed the meeting at Hilton House cafe. Thirty nine suits against Valley Line for Inverness wreck injuries progressed, with settlements in several cases including Waldo Miller’s family award of 4000 and administrator Jay A Martin securing 3425 for Bessie Terry’s death.

School Notes From Freshman and Sophomore Demonstration

Domestic science demonstration by freshmen and sophomores drew a good crowd and raised several dollars. The high school hosted a Tuesday morning program by a talented quintet with Harold Lint, Leslie Weigle, Orville Miller, Lyle Jones, and Vera Hufnagle featuring lectures solos and a one act play. Senior notes mention Washington D C as capital of Maryland and pennants arriving for the class. Absent and tardy lists are noted with several names and illnesses.

Seventh Grade Visitors and Attendance Report

Eva Meeks impressed seventh graders with her spelling while Helen Gill also impressed the class. Mrs Buck and Mrs Twichell visited the fifth and sixth grades Monday afternoon. Frank Younglove visited our room Friday forenoon. Absent pupils were Thelma Hephner Harold Emerick and Leola Church. The fifth grade was perfect in attendance and punctuality.
