Horrific murder suicide and arson near Bartlett

On July 16 a laborer Fred Fearhelm killed his wife and her six year old son with a razor, killed a horse, set the house ablaze, then shot himself. Neighbors found the victims and the charred remains, with a marriage certificate displayed amid the ruin, suggesting a bitter motive and premeditation. Fearhelm, a German, had been married in 1900 to Mrs DeMoss in Glenwood. The crime occurred in Mills County and the bodies were removed to Glenwood.
