Election Board Provisions Reported to Guard Voter Lists

The board for each district will meet on a Tuesday three weeks before elections and again the Tuesday before the election to prepare and perfect voter registries. No vote unless registered two weeks prior or proven eligible by affidavit, with affidavits from residents and registered voters. Severe penalties for fraud or perjury are provided. the statute aims to prevent fraud and illegal voting in large towns and cities.

Arrival of the 46th Regiment at Fort Gaines

A letter from Freeport reports the 46th Regiment arriving by the W R Arthur to Fort Gaines Mobile Bay after leaving Cairo on February 8. Wm Wertman was wounded by an accidental pistol discharge in Cairo. Springer and Umphrey are on the sick list and left at a Memphis hospital. The unit remained at Camp Butler near Springfield for muster and has not drawn arms. Col Dornblazer rumored to be promoted to Brigadier General, later confirmed.
