Morey Letter Forgery Tale Sought in New York Dispatch
A Chicago Inter Ocean dispatch claims a Morey Letter forgery was devised by H.W. Hadley and others in the Democratic National Committee. John Davenport allegedly spent 23 months tracing the forgery while Gen. Garfiell’s handwriting was forged. An electrotype facsimile was sent to the Sun, then published after rejections. A special California-bound train carried copies.
