The Prefect of Montezuma writes Gov Ortiz that on the 24th between 9 and 10 a.m. Apaches assaulted Col Lorenzo Yarros at Encino fourteen miles away. Sixty federal troops fought for three hours, Vicencio Provincia the district Diputada died, most troops were killed or wounded, five Federals and Cal Torres survived. Hostiles seized horses and equipment as they ambushed the force. Troops pursue Apaches toward the Arizona border.
